ISLAMABAD: Lawyer of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen on Wednesday challenged the jurisdiction of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). An exchange of harsh words between the chief election commissioner (CEC) and Imran Khan’s lawyer was taken place during the hearing on which the PM’s counsel – Salman Butt – said it should be decided whether the ECP is eligible to hear the petitions or not. The CEC remarked to hold talks over ECP’s jurisdiction first then precede the case. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) lawyer Latif Khosa accused that the PM’s counsel wanted to dictate the ECP Imran Khan’s lawyer said that he accepted the ECP’s authority and was ready to debate on the matter. The CEC expressed resentment and directed the lawyers to appear in the next hearing with full preparations. Subsequently, hearing of the petitions against Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan and Jahangir Tareen adjourned till October 10.
