ISLAMABAD: Sources said on Thursday that the orders to arrest the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activists came directly from the Prime Minister Secretariat. However, the PM Secretariat didn’t take the Interior Ministry into confidence about arrests and imposition of section 144 in the city. Credible sources told “Online” that the federal police was divided into two factions to check the rallies, meetings and conventions of PTI’s activists to stop the protest sit-in of November 2. “One faction of federal police is led by Police Inspector General (IG) Tariq Masood Yasin, who directly receives directions from PM office while other is headed by Sajid Kiyani – SSP Operation Islamabad Police – who also performed his duty as Staff Officer of Interior Minister Nisar Ali Khan”, Sources added. Sources further said that on Thursday evening, the police have conducted operation against PTI’s workers in sector E-11 in collaboration with FC personnel under the supervision of Islamabad’s IG and notification is issued for the imposition of section 144 for Thursday morning with the signature of Abdul Sattar Essani. “As soon as the news item about the torture of PTI’s workers was released on media, the Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has sought reply from the administrative officers that who and why has issued this order? Nisar has expressed his annoyance on the administrative officers and termed it defamation of existing government and that the PTI has attained moral support through the police’s initiative, sources explained. Sources further said that the PM Secretariat has ordered to take severe action against PTI’s workers in the light of Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafiq’s suggestion. The minister – in his suggestion – had expressed the opinion that government showed flexibility and softness with the participants of 2014 protest sit-in of PTI therefore it had become risk. “The crackdown should be launched against the PTI’s workers in violation of section 144 where they gathered,” he said. Sources concluded that the Interior Ministry is personally conducting inquiry in this regard that who had performed this complicated task adding that severe action against any administrative official is expected within couple of days.
