MITHI: Renown boxer Amir Khan reached Thar yesterday to visit villages of Nagarparkar, Islamkot, Mithi talukas and to get Asia’s biggest RO plant installed at Misri Shah; an area of Mithi town. The famous boxer while talking to Media during his visit to Thar deplored that it very shocking for him that most of the people living in Thar were being forced to drink hazardous water containing fluoride arsenic and other dangerous chemicals. He said such water was the basic cause of the fatal diseases among Tharis. “I have taken on the challenge to make sincere efforts to provide clean drinking water and provide power through solar system and Amir Khan Trust is trying to collect the funds to fulfill the dreams I and my wife Faryal Makhdoom Khan have cherished” , he added. He said his trust would work with Pak Osis Company, which is already engaged in installation of the RO plants. After the accomplishment of his first goal to provide safe drinking water he would embark upon to built modern hospitals for eye patients and schools in whole area of Thar. Khan said that it was his ambition now to serve the people of the desert. He appealed the international community to step up their efforts in helping the Sindh government in there effort to provide the basic necessities. It is pertinent to mention here that so far due to the continued droughts for past four years over two thousands children have lost their lives due to malnutrition and the outbreak of the water-borne diseases in areas of Thar. This year alone so far over 450 kids mostly infants have lost their lives.
