LAHORE: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and China Gezhouba Group of Companies (CGGC), the contractor of Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project (NJHP) took part in a rescue operation led by the Pakistan Army after a coaster fell into River Jhelum on Friday. According to the official handout issued on Sunday, the accident occurred due to failure of brakes. Resultantly, the coaster fell about 500 meters upstream of the under-construction NJHP dam. When WAPDA authorities at Nauseri site were requested for help, CGGC was directed to provide search lights and other technical assistance. The Pakistan Army led the rescue operation with the help of civil administration. On September 24, the army and rescue teams approached again NJHP site staff for providing the machinery and other resources which were also promptly provided. As per the requirement, the CGGC provided a bulldozer, an excavator and a crane for pulling out the coaster from the river. The operation of pulling out the coaster was completed on September 24 in the afternoon with the active help of WAPDA, which as per instructions of WAPDA high ups, provides all possible assistance in such emergencies.
