TIMERGARA: Dozens of Software Engineering students at the University of Malakand (UoM) observed a strike on Tuesday and boycotted classes against the varsity administration’s failure to register the software engineering department with the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). The students chanted slogans against the varsity administration for its failure to register the department with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC). Although media persons had been invited for coverage the varsity administration did not allow the local journalists to enter the varsity for coverage. Later, talking to reporters, the students of the final semester in software engineering, Saeed Ahmad, Hasan Muhammad, Zarar Hayat, Zubair Ahmad, Jawad Khan and NazishNaz told reporters that despite a lapse of six years the varsity administration took no practical measures to register the department with the PEC which had put the future of the students at risk. They alleged that the administration misbehaved with the protesting students and hurled threats to them instead of listening to their just demand. They said the university administration barred the media from coverage to conceal its failure. ” “The varsity administration had now decided to hold the mid-term examination from November 1 to throw the issue into the cold bin but the students would continue the strike alongside taking their papers”, they expressed with their firm determination.
