KARACHI: Faisal Edhi – son of Edhi Foundation’s founder – revealed on Saturday that after the sad demise of his father, MaulanaAbdusSattarEdhi, donations to foundation have seen a large drop – causing hurdles in carrying out day to day relief activities and service to ailing humanity. He said this while addressing the inaugural ceremony of two-day medical conference organized by Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA), themed as‘Karachi Con-16’ to late MaulanaAbdusSattarEdhi to pay tribute to the renowned social worker and to highlight the importance of service to ailing humanity and relief work in case of natural and manmade disasters in the country and abroad. Faisal said that the donationshave declined after the Edhi’sdeath leading to difficult financial times and urged the Pakistanis (living in the country as well as abroad) to cooperate with the foundation to help serve the purpose. He informed that the foundation was going to start the first ever school for training of ambulance drivers, medical technicians and paramedics in Karachi from the coming month to save lives during conflicts and disasters and to shift injured people to hospitals at the earliest by stabilising their condition on the spot. “Modernisation of Edhi ambulance service was a dream of MaulanaEdhi – which would be achieved sooner or later but at the moment, we are concentrating on the basic service of shifting those wounded and in need of medical service to the nearest hospitals without wasting precious time to save their lives,”Faisal said.
