WAH CANTT: A seminar on health, safety and environment standards was organised on eve of a ‘Safety Week’ at the Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) on Saturday. Addressing the participants as the chief guest, POF Board Chairman Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat said it was imperative to create awareness among POF employees on importance of heath, safety and environment. “We shall have to bring safety, health and environment standards at par with international level as all organisations in the whole world have focused on environment, health and safety of their employees. We will have to improve our SOP to reduce the losses from natural calamities,” he added. He appreciated performance of the Health Safety and Environment (HSE) Department and expressed his satisfaction over the steps taken by the department for ensuring health, safety and environmental standards. The chairman assured the department of every possible support in this regard. Earlier in his address, Health, Safety and Environment director said health, safety and environment was the part and parcel of any industrial complex. He said establishment of the HSE Department was a milestone in the history of POF. While throwing light upon the importance of health, safety and environment, HSE director remarked that these three elements were directly connected with the production activities and it was the prime responsibility of administration to ensure health, safety and clean environment for the employees. Other speakers include NDMA Director Raheela, Dr Shehzadi Saba Imran of Wah Medical College, Major Imran and HSE Manager Nasir Mahmood Baloch who delivered detailed lectures on the subject and highlighted the importance of health, safety and environment in an industrial unit.
