ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry has said that NAB has been assigned with the responsibility of elimination of corruption through a holistic approach of awareness, prevention and enforcement. He made these remarks in a meeting with Attorney General Islamic Republic of Iran Syed Jafer Montazeri and Iranian Ambassador in Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost in Islamabad on Tuesday. The chairman said that corruption was a menace for all developing countries especially Asian countries which were striving for growth and to maintain economic stability. He said that NAB had chalked out a comprehensive National Anti-Corruption Strategy having Zero Tolerance Policy and proactive approach to curb corruption and corrupt practices from the country. He said that the last sixteen years NAB has received over three hundred thousand complaints from individuals and organisations out of which over three thousand inquiries are matured into formal investigation. He said that NAB’s prime focus was on cases of cheating public at large by fraudulent financial companies, bank frauds and willful bank loan defaults, misuse of authority and embezzlement of state funds by public servants. He said Pakistan has become the first SAARC Anti Corruption Forum chairman which was a great achievement for NAB as well as for Pakistan. Syed Jafer Montazeri has lauded the performance of NAB. He appreciated its work output and requested for a written report about its mechanism.
