PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said that the eradication of polio from the country is a national cause. Polio is a crippling disease, effective measure have been taken to nib this disease in the bud. He expressed these views on World Polio Day in his message on Sunday. “World Polio Day being observed to create awareness among people regarding the potency of danger posed by polio to the health of our children,” the governor said It is a terrible fact that Pakistan is one of few countries where polio still exists so anti-polio campaigns are being conducted in FATA on monthly basis, he said. On average, 1 million children are being vaccinated with polio drops on monthly basis in FATA by the special polio points established on the agency’s borders to make sure that each and every child is immunised. As a result of the government’s measures, there has been a significant improvement in the situation for instance – as last year 176 cases of polio have been reported but this year only two cases of the same revealed which represents a giant step forward in our fight against polio, he said. The governor emphasised that the public should contribute with polio teams by immunising their children with polio vaccines to make the country free of the disease.
