LARKANA: A report disclosed that the basic facility of water is not available in 58 percent of primary schools in Dadu, while 55 percent schools do not have the facility of electricity. According to Alif Ailaan Pakistan’s report 48 percent schools do not have functional toilet facilities, 35 percent schools do not have boundary walls, and 12 percent of the primary schools have just one classroom. The District Education Ranking for 2016 by Alif Ailaan states that Dadu is ranked 67 out of the 151 districts of Pakistan while it is ranked 3rd out of the 24 districts of Sindh. The report further disclosed that at the primary school level on average there are just two classrooms in one school. Total 6715 teachers are appointed in the 2105 government schools. In 38 percent of the primary schools, only one teacher is appointed. On average, at the primary level, around 38 students are taught by one teacher. Almost 93 percent of the total government schools in the district only cater to the primary level needs. There are 2105 government schools out of which 1966 are primary level schools (1631 schools for boys and 474 schools for girls). In district Dadu, only 48 percent percent girls and 42 percent percent boys survive till class 5, while 47 percent of Class 5 students cannot read a simple story in Urdu (text of class 2) and 88 percent of Class 5 students cannot read a sentence in English (Text of class 2).
