SRINAGAR: More than 7,000 youths were detained in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) from July to October last year and a majority of them were released after quality counseling. Speaking with the media, a senior police officer admitted that over 7,000 youth were detained from July 8 to October 31, 2016. He said that majority of the youths were detained on charges of stone-pelting and participating in street protests, following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani last year. More than 436 youths were detained from the Srinagar district alone, according to a rough estimate, Kashmir Media Service reported. In southern Kashmir districts, many elderly people, including religious clerics and leaders of Hurriyat, were booked under draconian act and Public Safety Act.
