QUETTA – Emergency Operation Center (EOC) Balochistan’s Coordinator Dr Syed Saif Ur Rehman said that the task force constituted last month will ensure that every single Afghan child residing at Afghan Refugee camps will be vaccinated with anti-polio drops. Balochistan Government constituted a provincial task force to vaccinate Afghan Refugees residing in camps and ensure that these children should not be missed during the drive. He told in a meeting which was on Afghan refugee task force’s preparation. It was attended by Dr Badar of UNHCR, Syed Aqeel Agha of Afghan Refugee Commissioner Office, Dr Nayyar of Taraqee Foundation, Dr Ashraf of WHO, Dr Abdul Aziz of UNICEF and Dr Sarfaraz of WHO. They discussed about the task force plan for Afghan Refugees in order to ensure implementation and monitoring of the immunisation activities in these camps. They decided in the meeting that task force would have to hold its monthly meeting and would share TOR with UNHCR and others. Dr Syed Saif informed the meeting that the task force would closely monitor the Afghan Refugee camps. He said EOC Balochistan has taken initiatives to constitute a task force for Afghan Refugees children vaccination for polio. “There are around 12 Afghan Refugees camps in six districts of Balochistan and around target population of these refugees’ children is 57,808 in these camps,” he added. “We are focusing on the Afghan Refugee Camps for eradication of polio from Balochistan,” he said. Dr Syed Saif said that the officials of EOC had been visiting every boarding area of the province to monitor the high risk population and to strengthen the Pak Afghan Permanent Transit Points (PTP) in these six districts.
