ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has pledged that his party will continue to stand up as a strong voice for upholding human rights and stiff resistance against violations anywhere. The PPP chairman said that the party considers human rights as inalienable and not to be compromised in any situation or condition. “Imprisonments, solitary confinements, lashes and even the gallows could not deter the party leadership and workers to go on back-foot in its struggle for basic human rights, democracy and equal opportunities for all,” Bilawal said. Bilawal pointed out that there was no political prisoner during previous PPP government but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s rule has the worst human rights violations – especially against the weak segments of the society including women and minorities. “The PPP is taking up these violations of by the Nawaz-led government and his interior minister in the parliament to hold them accountable,” he stated. The PPP chief vowed that his party will protect the basic human rights of all the citizens without any discrimination and won’t tolerate any violations – whether by the government or any individual. In fact, all the legislation meant for safeguarding human rights in the country had either been initiated, sponsored or overwhelmingly supported by the PPP and ‘we are proud of that’, he said. Bilawal also condemned the brutal atrocities against the people of Indian-held Kashmir (IHK) by Indian occupation forces and urged the United Nations (UN) to grill New Delhi for violating basic human rights despite being a signatory to the Universal Human Rights Declaration.
