KARACHI – Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar Wednesday called on Rangers chief Bilal Akbar and apprised him about his reservations on the matter relating to the death of party worker Aftab Ahmed. According to local media reports, Sattar discussed with Akbar the whole situation surrounding the death of Aftab, a coordinator of Sattar who was pronounced dead on Tuesday. Sindh Rangers Director General Major General Bilal Akbar assured the Muttahida leader of an independent and transparent inquiry into the matter. He also promised to bring the culprits to justice. Earlier, Chief of Army Staff ordered an inquiry into the death of Aftab.Directing to hold an inquiry into Aftab’s death, the army chief instructed justice must be done, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. The statement came after several pictures and videos, reportedly showing the corpse of the deceased worker bearing torture marks on his body, went viral on social media. “Aftab Ahmed died during rangers custody as he was detained for 90 days for no reason,” MQM spokesperson Wasay Jalil said in a tweet.
