KARACHI – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Senator Aitzaz Ahsan said on Wednesday that is Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s moral obligation to surrender him for the accountability and let the probe commission to decide about his fate, as whether guilty or not guilty. He said the prime minister has been accused of owing offshore companies and hence he could not hold others as guilty or formally indict others in cases of offshore companies. He said that it is his moral obligation to surrender him for the accountability and let the probe commission to decide about his fate, as whether guilty or not guilty. As a rule of thumb, the prime minister should resign from his office on moral grounds and he has to make all of his property and assets public starting from the year 1985 until 2016 along with details of revenue generation, hundredfold multiplication of his bank deposits, tax returns and the means and mechanism of transfer of money abroad from Pakistan. The prime minister should also explain as how he managed to establish offshore companies and through which bank accounts he transferred the wealth abroad, he said. It is a rule of thumb that one, who accepts presence of his property and accounts abroad and offshore companies, he is liable to give explanation to the nation, argued the PPP senator. Nonetheless, the accountability has to be started from the PM Nawaz as he is claiming that he has offered him for the accountability, he asserted. The PPP leader alleged that prime minister has minted his wealth from the kickbacks from mega projects such as Metro Bus and Motorways projects. Aitezaz also said that all those whose names have appeared in the Panama Papers should be held for the accountability but the process of the accountability should be initiated from the prime minister. He said that all political parties on the opposition side except two are in favour of PM’s resignation and this start of the opposition with unity is a good omen. He said that no commission to probe the PM’s wealth abroad would be necessary if the PM accepts the terms of references (ToR) prepared by the united opposition and the prime minister should show consent for the accountability under these ToRs.
