ISLAMABAD – Minister for Interior Affairs Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan has said that the government is ready to consult the opposition in formulating terms of reference (ToRs). The minister criticised the opposition for ‘unnecessary demands’ into the Panama probe, saying the government is cooperating in every possible way to solve the issue. “Panama leaks revealed names of multiple personalities, not just Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family’s,” the minister told reporters here at the Punjab House. He said that the government contacted several high profile judges of the Supreme Court. “One by one, the judges refused to lead the commission.” Nisar said that the prime minister was the first person to respond to the Panama revelations. “PM himself said that nothing should remain hidden from the public. He had announced the judicial commission in his address to the nation,” he added. From judicial commission to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), the minister said, the government cooperated with the opposition in every possible way. “They (opposition), however, always leave things in the middle of nowhere.” He said that the government even wrote a letter to the chief justice, Anwar Zaheer Jamali, requesting him to form a commission to probethe Panama revelations. “No one is more independent to take decisions than the Supreme Court itself,” he added. Nisar’s conference came a day after the opposition presented its terms of reference (ToRs) to the government. According to the ToRs drafted by the opposition, “The proposed judicial commission (JC) should conclude investigations against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his family in three months.” Web Desk
