PESHAWAR – To recognise the invaluable services of polio workers Sitara Gul and Kaneez Nargis, who were killed last year during anti-polio campaign in Danna area of district Mansehra, the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday released 4.4 million rupees to each under “shuhada package”. According to a notification issued by the finance department, a total of 8.8 million rupees were released and transferred as additional grant to affected family members of LHW Sitara Gul D/O Mian Gul and LHW Kaneez Nargis D/O Mian Gul under Shuhada package. The notification further read that out of Rs 4.4 million released for each of the slain workers 3.3 million were released as cash compensation while 1.1 million were released as cash payment in lieu of plot of land. It is pertinent to mention here that three people including Lady Health Workers (LHWs) Sitara Gul and Kaneez Nargis and policeman Muhammad Mushtaq were gunned down on second day of the anti-polio campaign by unidentified terrorists in Danna area on March 17, 2015. The family members of Sitara Gul, a mother of four, and Kaneez Nargis, who had three children, have been in great distress since the tragic incident took place.
