QUETTA: One person was killed and at least 13 people were injured in a bomb explosion at the busy Sharah-e-Iqbal (Kandahari Bazaar), a bustling locality of the city, on Sunday.
Scores of people were busy shopping in the area for the Eid. “The bomb was planted near a shoe shop. At least 13 people were injured and shifted to Provincial Sandeman Hospital,” Mohammed Aslam, SHO City Police Station, told Daily Times. Rescue workers, police and paramilitary troops reached the spot soon after the explosion. “It was an improvised explosive device (IED) and planted near an open sewage line passing in front of a shoe shop,” Mohammed Aslam said, adding that it could not be established as to who was the target. The causalities could rise, he feared.
The Kandahari Bazaar is located in the heart of Quetta city and is always packed with people. Several markets, shopping malls and restaurants are located in the area. Aslam could not confirm how many people sustained injuries in the explosion. Some of the injured were identified as Mohammad Khan, Abdul Razaq, Kamran Saeed, Haji Akhter, Raz Muhammad, Essa Khan, Jabar, Abdul Latif, Rohullah. No group had claimed responsibility for the attack till this report was filed. Meanwhile, Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch strongly condemned the blast. Meanwhile, security forces Sunday recovered explosive devices from a house in Dera Bugti. Security forces and Levies personnel raided the house and seized 10kg of explosive along with detonators and fuses, in Bugti Colony.
