Model Humaira Asghar has been in the fashion industry for some time now. She’s been a learner and an ambitiously-strong woman in an industry where being that young could be hard for one to make their mark. She looks up to many people who have had her back and have helped her in this industry to better herself. “I have always had a fondness for education and at the same time a strong inclination towards theatre,” Humaira Asghar says. Humaira comes across as a strong, resilient, ambitious and an extremely brave and opinionated person, along with being immensely-talented and beautiful. “I’ve had the good fortune to have worked with some of the leading actors and serial directors in the industry; Salman Shahid, being one of them,” Humaira tells me. She’s energetic, confident and has an aura about her which is both captivating and charming. Her foray into television industry began much earlier than opting for a career as a fashion model. It was right after she had graduated from NCA that opportunities to act and perform on stage had engulfed her. The fact that she has worked as a sculptor, a performer, an actress and a fashion model adds to her share of exposure in the arts and culture industry. Her experience in all these fields gives her an edge over her contemporaries and peers. “In 2013, I was part of the ‘Ham Sab Umeed Se Hain’ team, doing parodies of Sonia Gandhi and Sherry Rehman, with both my performances earning praise and critical acclaim. I love being on stage, on the screen and in front of the camera. I knew right from the start that I was born to perform. I enjoyed dressing up and was always well-groomed,” she says. Based in Karachi, Humaira is busy with modelling contracts and runway assignments. She tells me she lost a lot of weight before joining modelling professionally. “I would never say that I was ugly being fat or that I’m judgemental about overweight people. Even in the days when I weighed double of what I weigh right now, I loved my body and was confident as theatre requires a heavy presence of the artist so it worked in my favour,” she says. She fondly recalls her first paid commercial which was for Hello! Magazine. Humaira mentions Amna Ilyas and Frieha Altaf who guided her briefly during her early days, when she was competing in the Miss Veet Pakistan competition and was in the final three. “The one rule that I swear by is to keep your mouth shut even if you are tempted to say a lot,” Humaira laughs. The one thing that cannot be ignored about this beauty with brains is that she is focused and wise beyond her years, other than being a foodie. “I absolutely love dining out at Cuckoo’s Café, Aylanto and Cosa Nostra when in Lahore,” she shares.
