Music icon Beyonce, who wowed with a stunning 2017 Grammys performance, stood in solidarity with trans youth when she posted a message on Facebook on Thursday that urged followers to fight for the LGBT community. Beyoncé encouraged her fans to take part in the 100 Days of Kindness Challenge to show their support for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender and queers (LGBT) community. In a Facebook post written on Thursday after the joint action by the Departments of Justice and Education, Beyoncé kept her message succinct with a caption that read: “#LGBTQ students need to know we support them,” along with a hashtag that read #protecttransyouth. She also included a link to GLSEN, a national education organisation that helps ensure safe schools for all children, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. The news has prompted a new backlash online against Donald Trump and his conservative policies, with protesters insisting rolling back protections put in place by former President Barack Obama will lead to more discrimination against transgender students.
