KARACHI: Magnum’s now annual ritual of hosting and organising an event, where designers would showcase capsule collections inspired by chocolate, took place on Wednesday in the city of lights at a local hotel. Celebrities and people from all walks of life rubbed shoulders to celebrate and witness fashion being personified as art and some distinct trends being set. Staying true to its essence of disseminating intrigue and pleasure, Magnum hosted this event lavishly and creatively in a very fashionable manner. Ladies dressed up on the red carpet, picking hues and shades of the luxury ice cream and men donned contemporary designs, also reminiscent of the dessert’s wrapping and its colour. One of the major highlights of the event was definitely the dessert table, which itself was a work of art. A litany of uncountable chocolate desserts and drinks adorned the table, where pastries, cakes, cookies, brownies, muffins and a myriad of other mouth-watering delicacies were on display for the guests to indulge in. Amna Tauqir was the confectioner and the artist behind all these delicious treats. Elements of dramatic performance art were further witnessed throughout the event from the chocolate carpet hosted by Zara Peerzada, to the foyer area, a live dessert table performance by Natasha Jozi and a live human wall by Wahab Shah who also created almost all of the performance art acts for the event. Speaking of Wahab Shah’s creativity and choreography acumen, the night kicked off with a mime performance by ladies clothed in white. The haunting music gripped the audience with its rhythm. Four designers, namely Shamaeel Ansari, Ali Xeeshan, Faraz Manan and Nilofer Shahid, showcased the best of their art movement of Surrealism inspired capsule collections. The outfits for each designer were laden with floral embellishments, gold sequins and blingy add ons. The common factor among all the outfits were the uniform colours of gold, brown, cream and black. Singer-cum-actor Ali Zafar graced the stage, putting his artistic and drawing skills to good use. The crowd went berserk when our very own Ali Zee drew a Xerox sketch of a lady in less than a minute. The event featured an art gallery curated by the renowned Sameera Raja of the Canvas Art Gallery. Sameera worked with established artists such as Muzzamil Raheel, Amir Habib and Maria Khan amongst others to bring the surrealism inspired theme to life at the Magnum Chocolate Party through their paintings, sculptures and art installations. The foyer also led through to a surrealist inspired photo box, designed by Saira Pagganwala with photography by Nadir Toosy. The Magnum Chocolate Party was produced by Catwalk, styled by N-Pro and NGents with event management by RAK Associates. The PR for the event was managed by the creative team behind Lotus PR & Events. For many, art met fashion on Wednesday night, but for us, flavour and art were dominant throughout the very fashionable night. Kudos to the team behind Magnum for bringing forth a distinct and a unique event with an exciting guest list and even more exciting fashion showcases.
