On this day in history, Duke of Cambridge and Britain’s future king, Prince William was born to Prince Charles of Wales and Princess Diana of Wales. He is the older son of the king and is next in line in succession to the throne after his father. The Duke of 34 is the epitome of a mature and responsible young man. He exudes the air of being a well-mannered and mature young man, shows a strong sense of duty and loyalty to the royal family and aware of the role he is to play in the future as the King of England. Prince William was greatly affected by first, his parent’s divorce in 1996 and then his mother’s tragic death in 1997. He has openly expressed a dislike for the press and this wouldn’t be surprising given his history with it, for example the media’s coverage of his mother’s death and the Prince Harry scandal of 2002. William and his wife, Princess Catherine Middleton known more commonly as ‘Kate’, Duchess of Cambridge both engage in various acts of philanthropy and like his mother are affiliated with a number of organizations such as Tusk Trust that works for the conservation of wildlife and is currently a patron of 100 Women in Hedge Funds Philanthropic Initiatives. The Duke and Duchess, in 2011, also announced a gift fund held by The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry which provided their fans and well-wishers to donate money to charities as a wedding gift, and this fund supported 26 charities. His marriage to his long-time girlfriend, Kate in 2011 was met with a lot of criticism and shock as the Duchess and future Queen to be is not a royal by blood. This marks a break from a very long royal tradition of staying within the aristocratic lineage. The Duke stays in the limelight mostly for his dedicated efforts for social awareness and philanthropic causes and seems to be as committed to his causes as he is to being loyal to his family and his country.
