Tarun Tahiliani and Amit Aggarwal once worked together in Tahiliani’s designer studio. After nearly 15 years, the mentor and his student came together to take the stage at the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2017 grand finale. What followed was the work of two designers who had evolved into their distinct styles yet crossed paths. If Tarun Tahiliani was the disciplined master couturier, Amit Aggarwal was the prodigy who was destined to shine in a spotlight of his own. Aggarwal played his strengths-sustainable solutions, structural balance, sculpting while Tahiliani focused on creating highly stylised ready to wear pieces that highlighted his deft hand at draping. With upcycled patola saris and motifs inspired by Mughal motifs, the collection took many courses. The designers transformed the runway into the Amazon forest to put together a spectacle with synchronised design identities that spoke of respect and the humble-yet-profound give and take of learnings. As Tahiliani put it across succinctly, “there’s a lot of respect here”. With a high-concept approach to the design sphere which is bustling with traditional connotations in a diverse spectrum of modernity, the Amazon India Fashion Week Autumn Winter 2017, celebrated its 29th edition with gusto. The four-day sojourn witnessed 115 renowned and young designers from across the nation, showcasing their sartorial iterations from March 15-18 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Lodhi Road. The Amazon India Fashion Week with its iridescent mood gives a host of opportunities to not just budding talent, but also all the people intimately associated with the fashion universe-from stylists, models, choreographers to backstage production and event organisers.
