LAHORE: It’s raining films. The poster-launching ceremony of upcoming Pakistani film, starring Ahsan Khan, Ayesha Omar, Sehrish Khan, Hina Bayat and Ghulam Mohiuddin, was held on Wednesday at The Lahore Social. Sehrish Khan is veteran actress Sabiha Khanum’s granddaughter. ‘Rehbra’, which is an action romance tale, is slated to release during the second quarter of 2017. It is helmed by acclaimed TV director and writer Amin Iqbal, who was also present at the launch, flanked by renowned Human Rights Advocate and Columnist Ibn Abdur Rahman. A number of eminent members of the media industry were present to lend their support for the upcoming Pakistani film. Indeed, the cinema of the country is now going from strength to strength where a litany of good-quality films are being produced every year. “As with many other Pakistani films, we were on a strict budget during the making of the film. Despite those constraints, we wanted to make it flawless, making the most of the budget on hand. Imran Ali has composed the music of the film. We wanted Bollywood singers to lend their voices in the soundtrack album, but owing to the current political climate, we weren’t able to do so,” Amin Iqbal said, during the press conference. Answering a question, Iqbal said, “I don’t claim that the film is very different from others, etc. I think ‘different’ is too clichéd a word. It’s an action romance tale, aiming to entertain the audience. We are confident that the film will do well and give competition to other films, starring A-list actors, being played in multiplexes. I am planning another film as well as I really want the filmmaking trend to continue in our country. I want ‘Rehbra’ to connect with the audience.” Ibn Abdur Rahman, also while speaking on the occasion, said, “I don’t believe that a film’s sole purpose is only to entertain. I think it’s a very powerful medium and should be used to communicate rather than amuse. I feel Shoaib Mansoor’s ‘Khuda Ke Liye’ set the precedent for exceptional-quality films to come out in our cinemas from Pakistan.” Iqbal spoke very highly of Ayesha Omar and said that her role in the film suits Omar’s personality quite well. “I did not sign any TV serial after ‘Udaari’, even after reviewing six scripts. I don’t want to do run-of-the-mill work. I completed my film ‘Chuppan Chupai’ after that only. And after that, now it’s ‘Rehbra’. It’s a beautiful, well-knit love story. It’s a much-needed intense-romantic film with great music as well,” Ahsan Khan said, while talking exclusively to Daily Times.
