Pakistan’s home couture brand, YOCA is the only Pakistani brand to win the esteemed “Silver A’ Design Award” which is regarded as one of the most prestigious interior design award in the world. The company is led by architects Zayd Bilgrami, Sarah Najmi Bilgrami and Ahsan Najmi. Winners are selected from thousands of nominees by an international jury from around the world. The jury comprises of members of the press, creative design professionals and prominent scholars. The brand has specifically been awarded for its design project titled “Amoeba- The Coffee Table” in the Furniture, Decorative Items and Home ware Design Category. Sarah Najmi, creative director of YOCA said on winning the award: “It is an incredible honour to receive recognition from such an innovative and internationally acclaimed awards competition; one that sets the benchmark for design authority in Italy. We are so humbled to represent Pakistan at a platform that essentially sets the tone for design excellence worldwide. As for award winning table which examines the synergies between shapes and structures, it’s a great challenge to find suitable pieces of the rosewood tree roots and bark formations that complement each other well enough to have formed “Amoeba – The Coffee Table”. However, the end result is worth the effort when we know we have created a distinctive, stand-out furniture piece.” The award aims to highlight the qualifications of the greatest furniture design concepts worldwide that offer an array of qualities in their products, like; improved sustainability, increased utility and remarkable performance to name a few. The fact that YOCA received this award is something to be extremely proud of since the company has allowed for a “Made in Pakistan” product to receive international acclaim and has indeed set a precedent for quality and design.
