It’s official – ‘Resident Evil 7 Biohazard’ will be hitting shelves from January 24, 2017.The game doesn’t come as a huge surprise – Capcom has teased a new iteration in the long-running horror series for some time but the trailer does reveal some unexpected aspects of the new game. Unlike the action-fuelled ‘Resident Evil 5’ and ‘Resident Evil 6’, this refresh appears to hark back to the survival horror days of old. The creepy debut trailer mostly features a first-person perspective. The trailer opens with a phone ringing and an unseen character answering it to say, “She’s back.” With a mixture of establishing shots of decrepit hallways and morbid torture devices, the intent to induce fear instead of adrenaline is clear. Unknown characters can be seen investigating the halls of the house, and it can be assumed that they will play a part in the story. As the trailer goes on, the imagery seems to take on a more avant-garde look – an artistic style that hopefully will translate into the gameplay. Time lapses of decaying animals, sprawling forests with mansions looming behind them, and more unidentified characters gazing at various locations all accent the new ‘Resident Evil’. It will likely be even scarier in its virtual reality mode – the PS4 game is compatible with PlayStation VR as well. While no more details about the story or how the game will fit in with its predecessors are known, it was announced that the new installment will feature VR capabilities from start to finish.
