LAHORE: Fashion is not new to Sohaib Ali. The young designer has been trying his hand at creating wearable, trendy and affordable apparel for men and women, mostly targeting the age bracket of 18 to 35, with his designs. He started off by stocking at a retail store, nestled in Centaurus Mall, Islamabad and found himself experiencing satisfactory sales. He was dealing with western wear at first, but now Sohaib Ali believes, designing couture and semi formals should be his next venture. “I’ve never had formal training or schooling in fashion and design before. Neither have I ever assisted any designer to learn my craft. I’ve been self taught and have been inspired by Ali Xeeshan and Zuhair Murad mainly. I love the way they experiment with all shades and make an outfit stand out from the rest. Savani is my newest couture and semi-formal brand and I hope to cater to a market that looks out for affordable and quality designs,” Sohaib said, while talking exclusively to Daily Times. The way Sohaib has been taking baby steps in order for him to grow and learn with the passage of time, is commendable. To foray with a big bang in an industry which is new to you, does not quite seem like a good idea. “Initially, when I was stocking briefly to see the response from people and trying to muster in clientele, my brand’s name was Eos. Now, I’m showcasing under the name of Savani, a name which is here to stay,” he shares. Going by the brand name choices, Sohaib wants to bring forth the beauty, grace and the charisma of a woman through his designs. Savani’s recently-unveiled couture and semi-formal collection consists of less but quality designs, with hues and shades depicting the arrival of spring and very much suitable for the current wedding season. There are a lot of pastels, metallics and subtle shades with skirts, cropped tops, mandarin collars and boat-shaped necks being the key highlights. Sohaib plays with silk, cotton net and organza with minimal embellishments. Savani’s launch event was organised and arranged by the creative team behind Nine Rays – Naurez Latif and Waleed Khan.
