KARACHI: The Tehzeeb Foundation organised its 7th festival and awards ceremony on Sunday at a local hotel. The day-long festival included an art exhibition, musical performances, poetry reading sessions, an award ceremony and music video launches The festival is supported/sponsored by the government of Sindh. The Tehzeeb Festival began with a solo exhibition by Ali Abbas-one of the most-celebrated fine artists of Pakistan. Another segment included visual presentations/readings by Anwar Maqsood and Raza Ali Abidi. An award ceremony included certificates distributions to the Indus Raag Project contributors who had recently won Global Music Awards and Independent Music Awards nominations. The award certificates were given to Ustad Rais Khan, Ustad Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Naseeruddin Sami, Ustad Nafees Khan, Ustad Bashir Khan, Ustad Shahid Hamid, Ustad Salamat Hussain, Ustad Sajid Hussain, FuzonGroup, Asif Sinan and others. A music video “Story of Gulsher” was also launched during the festival. The story evolved around a 13-year-old Gulsher who sacrificed his life and his younger brother Shamsher who eventually took up his schooling with the same energy and spirit. The song has been produced by Sharif Awan featuring music by Arshad Mehmood, reading sessions by Zia Mohyeddin, lyrics by Harris Khalique, vocals by Zoe Viccaji and backing vocals/sitar by Nafees Ahmed Khan. Gulsher’s team also spoke about their videos and how they came through this idea. Live music sessions featured young artists including Shai Kazi, Kashif Zafar, Turab Ali, Shehroz Hussain and others. It will also include a jugal bandi session by Mumtaz Ali Sabzal, Abdullah Khan and Ustad Bashir Khan. The PR of the event was done by Mujtaba Javaid.
