KARACHI: Fashion and lifestyle brand J. by veteran musician and entrepreneur Junaid Jamshed, on Saturday, launched Wasim Akram 414 – a signature fragrance paying rich tribute to Pakistani cricket star Wasim Akram. A star-studded event was attended in full by the who’s who of the media, entertainment, fashion and sports industry, and was held at a local hotel in Karachi. It paid tribute to the immense contributions by former Pakistani cricketer Wasim Akram to the field of sports. The event kicked off with a thoroughly entertaining skit performed by the students of the National Academy of Performing Arts, detailing the life of the former cricketer, his foray into the field of sports, his highs and lows and also how he met and proposed to his lady love. The reason the fragrance is named 414 is because this is the exact number of wickets that Wasim Akram took during his Test match career. “I was fully on board to choose and select what kind of fragrance I wanted for my signature cologne. I wanted to go with something, which would help me relax and soothe me rather than sweet fruity scents or a strong scent. I’m so happy how the fragrance has turned out to be and also the bottle,” Wasim said, during the event. TV presenter and comedienne Bushra Ansari hosted the event, calling upon acclaimed mind reader and mentalist Shaheer Khan who entertained the audience by calling upon commentator and journalist Harsha Bhogle and former cricketer Ramiz Raja, and trying to read their minds amid cheers from the audience. Inzamamul Haq, Javed Miandad, Ijaz Ahmed, Ahmed Shahzad, Irfan Khan, former squash player Jahangir Khan, Ayesha Omar, Deepak Perwani, Behroze Sabzwari, Atiya Khan, Frieha Altaf, Hira and Mani and many other prominent celebrities were in attendance during the event. Musician and politician Abrarul Haq co-hosted the event with Bushra Ansari. Junaid Jamshed and Wasim are still remembered for sharing the screen together for a TVC of a renowned brand. “Me and Wasim were just at the floating phase of our careers when we got the opportunity to know each other and share the screen for Pepsi Pakistan. I know him since then and I thank him for being with me as a friend throughout. It’s a pleasure and honour for me to pay a tribute to the legend and a friend,” Jamshed said during the event. The major highlight of the event was when a video was showcased on the giant screen showing all the major cricketing accomplishments of Wasim throughout his career, with an inspiring music track playing in the background, and then a countdown began, with the screen opening up and Akram walking in with the J. fragrance. The crowd went berserk on seeing their favourite star standing live in front of them.
