Here’s to no more remarks like, “Didn’t she carry that same bag to the last party, too?” It’s not a faux pas, and our Bollywood ladies such as Jacqueline Fernandez, Shilpa Shetty and Sridevi are proving just that by repeating their favourite bags during recent outings. The fashion frat, too, has given it a thumbs up. “It’s an inspiration to real women. It shows their confidence and it’s liberating. You must make full use of everything that you have. My vote is definitely to those who are breaking this mould. We don’t want to see celebrities dressed to the T by stylists; we want to see their personalities,” says designer Anupama Dayal. Stylist Prayag Menon agrees and says one doesn’t have to live up to a trend or expectations. “It’s important to enjoy what you wear and carry. Fashion is all about having a good time.” Designer Rina Dhaka says it’s a sensible thing to do, especially when travelling. “If you change bags, you might end up losing stuff. You need a bag that’s reliable and easy to manoeuvre.” However, as you go about the town flaunting your favourite bag again and again, remember that the same bag might not complement all your outfits. Styling the look right is important, says stylist Vikram Seth. “There is a fine balance between making a fashion faux pas and setting a trend; one has to be careful while styling the bags. The overall look should be cohesive and not be out of place. Bags and shoes are the things that can make or break a look,” he says. Fret not! There’s also a suggestion in store. An oversized tote bag is a safe bet in this scenario. How? Carry it simple or funk it up with accessories. “You can accessorise the bag with scarves, quirky key chains or bracelets. You can also add studs and crystals to the strings to break the monotony and give a new dimension to the same piece,” adds Seth.
