KARACHI: The first installment of the Fashion Pakistan Week 2016 began on Thursday night with 13 designers showcasing their work. The who’s who of the media industry turned up in large numbers to support the coveted pret show. The media and PR for the event was managed by Take II. Deepak Perwani Karachi-based designer Deepak Perwani opened Day 1 with his collection, which was rich in organza tops set in a white colour palette. Ruffled gowns, palazzo pants, graffiti-ed jackets and kaftans were some of the highlights of Deepak Perwani’s collection. Sleeveless midriff jackets stood out for their immense appeal. Actors Sarwat Gillani and Sikandar Rizvi showstopped for the designer. Wardha Saleem Wardha Saleem was up next with her collection, which she had showcased earlier at the London Fashion Week. Elements of acid detailing were prominent throughout her collection. Hand-painted bags were featured in collaboration with Jafferjee’s. Saleem’s collection was a tribute to those women who live life on their own terms. I loved the modern look, which seemed fresh, urban and very youthful. Hats off to Frieha Altaf for the impeccable choreography, which seemed at par with international standards. Brightly-embroidered jackets depicted nature and jungle life. Harem pants, jumpsuits and short coats were the highlight of the collection. Lala Textiles Next up was Lala Textiles, who displayed a collection rich in a beige colour palette. Pants, belted jackets with lace sleeves were dominant. Lala Textiles showcased a versatile collection that featured Eastern wear as well. Floral embroidered pants and interesting and unique headgears spoke volumes of the design team’s creativity. Actress Aiza Khan showstopped for the brand. Bank Alfalah Rising Talent Show Next up was a segment by Bank Alfalah Rising Talent. Nida Sohail, Uzair Sardar, Urmia and Shanza showcased their work, which was distinct and off beat. Sohail and Sardar’s collection stood out for their minimal embellishments, trendy cuts and a creative approach. Trend Show Next up was the Fashion Pakistan Trend Show, which featured the works of Sanam Chaudhri, Maheem Karim, Obaid Sheikh and Delphi by Nida Tapal. Kayseria Kayseria stole the show for many, showcasing a very wearable and a very marketable collection. I loved the knee-length cotton shirts, paired with shalwar, straight trousers and cigarette pants. The collection was traditional work of art, set in a colour palette of white, gold, pink and violet. Gulabo Veteran designer Maheen Khan closed Day 1 with Gulabo. Actress Ayesha Omar showstopped for the veteran designer. Gulabo displayed a collection, which was rich in digital prints, monochrome looks and edgy cuts.
