Sir: I wish to point towards the dismal governmental approach towards the alarming levels of pollution and its consequences. Marine pollution, in particular, has a drastic effect on not only dolphins and other marine organisms but also human health. Toxic chemicals and oil seepages that continue to degrade the coastal ecosystems in Pakistan are further exacerbated by the grossly inadequate water treatment facilities. Subsequent administrations have not effectively implemented the existing legislations by the water bodies. Protecting marine lives is a collective responsibility and should be treated as such. I urge the present government to invest in structures that treat industrial discharges before dumping them into the sea. FIDA ZAMAN Lahore
