Sir: The US has always proved itself to be a country with an obsession for power, whose government lives with the dream of spying, killing and ruling the world. President Obama now has privileges that allow him to view e-mails, tap calls and catch anyone from a local resident to the president of Mexico, even spy on the German chancellor. The German government called the US ambassador in Berlin and demanded an explanation. The Italians and Mexicans also did not appreciate the illegitimate actions by the White House people. Mexico has clearly demanded investigation into the US’s unacceptable, unlawful acts carried out by the US’s National Security Agency (NSA). Would anyone like it if someone accessed their e-mail or tapped their phone without permission? The NSA is doing just this and their spying is not only limited to the VIPs of Europe but also private citizens all over the world, who have been affected. Smartphone systems, VoIP software and e-mails have all been traced by these people. A most mentionable name in this large scale spying is Britain’s Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), which helps the NSA in monitoring all global communications. The companies Apple, Google and BlackBerry are in no way safe. The White House says that actions have been taken against those who leaked the information to NSA. The international community condemns the US’s act of illegitimacy and the UN should investigate the issue. HUSSAIN ALI Karachi
