Sir: In the past few years, Pakistan has seen a boost in film industry. With films like Wrong Number, Ho Man Jahan etc. Pakistani film industry went under a makeover. Actresses got younger, the songs turned into item numbers, the protagonist were given heartthrob personalities. Pakistani film industry took a huge leap, from the violence culture to the modern posh societies. However, pure entertainment movies have taken an entirely different direction. Indian influence item numbers and vulgar punch lines depict a culture which does not belong here. Somewhere in the modernisation of Pakistani film industry we have lost track and blindly following Indian/ western content. Movies like Jawani phir nahi ani, dobara phir se, and thora jee ley represent a very limited elite class. They have just modernised the violence culture while the story stays the same. There is a need for people to realise that a huge part of Pakistani culture still goes unnoticed. We may think Pakistani film industry has revived but in reality, it’s following the old tradition. Our values and norms are slowly fading away. A true revival will need more films which are closer to our culture and social problems with incorporation of decent humour. A responsibility lies upon us as viewers as well, we need to stop promoting such movies. If we stop seeing this content, they’ll stop producing such movies. NIDA ANSER Mirpur, Azad Kashmir
