Sir: This is in reference to your address to a ceremony held to mark the beginning of the new judicial year. Sir, you have rightly highlighted the spectre of domestic terrorism and prevailing intolerance in society. It is known to every thoughtful Pakistani that main political parties and military generals who has been ruling the Islamic State for the last 30 years are responsible either ignoring or encouraging use of violence to protect their political interest at the cost of national interest The pertinent question is why the judiciary and other state institutions whose heads are not elected by people, who are state servants are still silent spectators? Why for the last five months no action has been taken after Panama papers leaks? Sir, regarding your views that founding father Mohammad Ali Jinnah never said that Pakistan should be a secular state, I would like to add that he also never said that Pakistan would be a theocratic state and Islam will be the state religion, and it will be state’s responsibility to promote Islam by force. Why our common faith has not kept East Pakistan with West Pakistan together? Why has Bangladesh adopted a secular constitution then? The founding fathers and members of Muslim League which claim to be a political party responsible for the creation of Pakistan were from Bengal and not from Punjab. What about the prediction of Allama Mashraqi made about Pakistan on May 14, 1947, that there will be the rule of terror and tyranny in Pakistan? Why our mosques have to be guarded by police when it is an Islamic state? It is time to revisit our history and decide which ideology will lead Pakistan to a modern progressive state of Muslims. People of Pakistan have paid a very heavy price of Islamisation. ENGR S T HUSSAIN Lahore
