Sir: There appears to be no definite system or criteria for naming pubic property including institutions, buildings and roads. Consequently, an international airport has been named after a leader who opposed the creation of Pakistan and hated to be buried in the country. I admire him for his struggle and sacrifices for independence but he is not relevant to Pakistan. Similarly, political parties in power name roads and public institutions after their leaders who are important for parties but not for the entire nation. Furthermore, roads have been named after those who were not nation builders but close aides of the rulers. In fact, entertainers are admired by rulers of feudal taste more than nation builders. I appeal to the lawmakers to please take interest in naming public properties after prominent personalities who are or were nation builders and who are acceptable to majority of people as role models.
