Sir: I was surprised to know that a Life Time Achievement Award has been bestowed by the Old Ravians Society upon journalist Hamid Mir during the annual dinner of the society on April 15, 2017. Hamid Mir is a controversial person who on various occasions has negatively projected Pakistan in the garb of Human Rights and Freedom of Speech. I wonder why the award was not considered for Gen Raheel Sharif (Retd) who saved Pakistan from the brink of destruction. He is a great son of Government College and we the old students of GC are greatly proud of him. The Old Ravians Society is supposed to be a representative body of the college’s old students but the conferring of this award to Hamid Mir does not represent the overwhelming sentiments of Old Ravians. We call for the award to be taken back and request that this august forum should not be used for political gains and vested interests. H.A. REHMAN Lahore
