Sir: I recently went from Mumbai to Kochi for my job interview for a posting at a renowned catering college located in Munnar (all in India). The moment we reached near our destination of Kochi, I had started noticing a lot of interesting things from the train. First, I was able to see the rows of clothes being kept in the open areas — meaning that these clothes are drying up in the open areas in front of the houses located in Kochi. The scenes of these wet clothes (mostly hand-wash) clearly demonstrate how clean the Keralites in Kochi are. In fact this ‘beautiful and healthy’ scene stretched up to our Kochi Railway Station. The fact is that the people in Kerala are fond of taking bath in clean and serene water (of course numerous beautiful rivers and ponds are flowing across the state of Kerala). Incidentally and interestingly, the district of Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu that is adjoining Kerala is the hub of Tamil culture and Malayalam culture. For instance, the women in the areas like Nagercoil, Kanyakumari, Kaliyakkavilai, Thuckalay, Kuzhithurai and Marthandam (all in Tamil Nadu, India) are accustomed to using herbal items to take care of their hair. Finally, having idlis with sambar (Indian dishes) in Kochi is a great treat (I just savoured the great taste there!). In a nutshell, there is an interesting message originating from the Kerala culture. The people in Kerala are having the beautiful experiment with the nature. And they are living and working in a healthy way. The message is very clear for all of us to learn from their culture. Way to go!
