Sir: Pakistan Railways provides transportation facilities to the people across the country but somehow not much investment has been made for its improvement by succeeding civil and military governments. Due to vested interests, some even promoted transport sector at the cost of the railways as a result of which it had started deteriorating, as there was persistent government neglect. It is good to note that the present government is paying attention to improvement of the railways working, its income is showing signs of considerable improvement and a turnaround is quite visible. More importantly, trains have mostly started running on schedule and have gained the confidence of a very large number of people, travelling across the country daily; confidence in the safety, comfort and improved quality of railways is gradually increasing. It is quite laudable that due to the concerted, determined and sincere efforts of the employees throughout the country, railway is no more redundant and its income has increased almost three times during the last four years from Rupees 18 billion in 2013 to Rupees 50 billion annually. Surely and certainly, it was a challenge to put the important public transport organisation back on track and make it a financially viable and profitable organisation and this has appreciably been accomplished by all those associated with the railways from top to the bottom This combined effort by all should be continued to secure the larger interests of railways employees as well as the travelling public to ensure it really becomes a profitable and viable organisation.
