Sir: I fully endorse the recommendation of posthumously awarding Nishan-i-Imtiaz to one of the sincerest friends of Pakistan. The government should not miss out on this opportunity the way it did in respect of another friend of Pakistan and a true humanitarian, Sunil Dutt.Like Khushwant Singh, a son of the soil which is now Pakistan, Sunil Dutt was also against fundamentalists belonging to all communities irrespective of caste, creed and colour.Considering his selfless and all out support for the affected persons during the post-Babri Masjid demolition riots in Mumbai — to which this writer happens to be an eyewitness — and his attachment to several other humanitarian causes, Sunil Dutt should have at least been conferred with the second highest civilian award of Pakistan when he had accompanied Dilip Kumar on the latter’s visit to Islamabad to receive the Nishan-i-Imtiaz in 1997.
