Sir: It is awful to see that student councils ie, Pakhtoon and Sindhi councils confronted at Quaid-e-Azam University Islamabad. A number of students were unable to appear in exams and the matter became worse to the extent that university cancelled a number of papers due to expected clashes between both the groups. Numerous students vacated hostels due to life threats. At Quaid-e-Azam University, these councils’ role is limited to helping students of their community whether its related to financial assistance of students or guiding them in admission process. They also raise their voice for students’ rights. These councils also spread traditional colours in recreational activities in the university. Now, it is the duty of the councils’ well-educated and approachable members to identify the rationale behind the fight and try to resolve the issue with peace. Such incidents of violence and fear not only threaten university peace and security but it is also a threat to the councils’ existence. This negativity dominates positive role and importance of these groups. So, it’s better to resolve this conflict through dialogue and understanding rather than involving other elements to create hype and emotional drama on ethnicity and project more problems which don’t even exist for their personal interest.
