Sir: I want to draw your attention to the serious issue of gas meters’ theft in Rawalpindi and its suburbs. Local administration seems ineffective in curbing the criminal activities of meter thieves. Several cases have been reported to the police stations but not a single thief has been caught so far. The silence of the local administration is encouraging lawbreakers to commit the crime freely. They do not miss any opportunity to steal the gas meters. There are so many victims who have been deprived of their meters. People usually do not have sufficient information on how they can get a new meter. The procedure of applying for new meter contains a number of technical complications and new meters are so expensive. Average cost of a meter is Rs 12,000 to 30,000. Thefts are happening exactly when winter is in full bloom and the rains, snowfall on the mountains have contributed to more cold. Therefore, I request through this newspaper to the local administration to break the network of gas meter thieves and provide relief to the citizens. MUHAMMAD ISHAQ Via Email
