Sir: As a senior citizen, it pains me to write this unpleasant letter depicting apathy of those sitting in comfortable offices and enjoying perks at public expense. For the past three years, I have been appealing to concerned authorities through media and directly that motorcyclists crossing the railway track on the underpass road at Jhelum Road, Rawalpindi are falling and getting injured. Record of many accidents can be checked from Rescue 1122 record, which, reportedly, has been conveyed to higher authorities as well. A motor cycle fall on Oct. 17, at about 19 40 hours involving a man, woman, and a baby has prompted me to write this letter for help. Motorcyclists fall when crossing railway track at an angle other than ninety degrees. Roads crossing railway tracks are always at ninety degrees as it been a standard practice since the 19th century. The aforesaid problem can be solved easily by allocating about 3.5 feet space at one end of this wide road not in normal use, and marking with small white painted concrete blocks along with a traffic sign to guide motorcyclists to cross rail track at ninety degrees. This relatively inexpensive measure can save countless people from injuries. The authorities are requested to please look into this. M. AKRAM NIAZI Rawalpindi
