Sir: As a nation, we have come a long way but we have forgotten our roots and those people who died while struggling for freedom. Going back many years in history, we find great leaders like Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal but I think we have failed to remember that Muhammad Ali Jinnah laid the foundation of Pakistan and he was a true leader. We have been so involved in our routine life that we tend to ignore the fact that our ancestors offered so many sacrifices for this country so that we could accomplish our goals, make our dreams come true and be respected citizens with freedom of thought. I think we also have some responsibility towards our beloved country and we must not forget how hard it was for Muhammad Ali Jinnah to free a country from the British rule so that his people could have the freedom of speech. We should not neglect what was Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s ideology and how he wanted his nation to act upon his message, i.e. Unity, Faith, Discipline. We remember this message either on the birthday of Muhammad Ali Jinnah or on August 14 (Independence Day); it should not be like this. We must know what it stands for and what were the expectations of Muhammad Ali Jinnah from us as a nation. In order to develop brotherhood and spread humanity, we must focus on his ideas and thoughts so that we could follow his ideology and pass it on to others. We should be united and settle all our disputes for the sake of our country so that our enemies will not take advantage of our own disputes. I think we should not let down Muhammad Ali Jinnah and his ideology because he wanted his nation to be free of differences and enmity. He wanted to see us as one united nation but we have divided ourselves into different groups on the basis of caste and creed. There should be no discrimination. We must consider everyone equal whether it is a poor man who is living on a footpath or a rich man who is living in a luxurious house. We must focus on his words, message and ideology so that we become the nation that Muhammad Ali Jinnah had dreamt of. SHAFAQ KHALID RANA Lahore
