Sir: It has been reported that Haiti, a Caribbean country has been severely hit by Hurricane Matthew that has caused great damage in terms of death toll. The fact is that many countries in the world often find it difficult to handle/face natural catastrophes. And the sooner the countries are getting serious about this fact, the better it would be for all. Sometime ago, a school of whales was stranded and they eventually died on the Tiruchendur beach in Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu in India. And the various reasons like climate change had been quoted for this unfortunate incident. So it is important to safeguard the natural habitation and environment at all costs. Right now the countries should come forward to help out the affected citizens of Haiti on a war-footing. P SENTHIL SARAVANA DURAI Mumbai, India
