Sir: There are media reports about National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and its performance that is serving as a laundry for the corrupt. White collar crimes involving billions of rupees occur with the connivance of corrupt regulators, who make prosecution an uphill task. In the developed world, where the rule of law prevails, state prosecutors after thorough investigations select a foolproof case to indict criminals. It is an unfortunate fact that since the creation of NAB, corruption in Pakistan has multiplied. If terrorism is an engine, then corruption serves as its fuel and lubricating oil to drive this demon that threatens national security. It was under former President Pervez Musharraf’s rule that corruption was institutionalised and NAB was reduced to a whitening agency for the benefit of white collar criminals. It is not just white collar criminals, but also murderers, kidnappers and rapists, who benefited from the National Reconciliation Ordinance. Today, NAB has become a service provider for the corrupt elite, criminals and land mafia dons. ALI MALIK TARIQ Lahore
