Sir: Besides all the annual changes in our syllabuses and the weaknesses of our education system in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, there is another great tragedy that the students face in every examination, especially in graduation and masters programmes. The students become confused, on the spot, over how to answer certain questions. This mostly happens with students of History, International Relations, Pakistan Studies and Social Sciences. I myself really faced a tragedy in my MA examinations during a History paper when I had to answer the following question: the teachings of madrassahs, mullahs and religion play an important role in the society of Afghanistan. What are your comments? At that time, I was confused about what to write. Should I write about the reality or stories that would make the examiner happy? Here, in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, if the government is composed of the PTI or JI, then one has to write all the ‘positive’ aspects of the mullahs, madrassahs and Islamic teachings, and if the government belongs to some other party then one can write about the real face of the mullahs and madrassahs. In that particular paper, I answered the question with the truth and reality behind the mullahs and madrassahs of Afghanistan but I am afraid of the JI and PTI government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s response.
