Sir: Pakistan has never faced such a magnitude of social crimes since its creation as we face today. We are in deep slumber and have become insensitive, selfish and careless almost in every walk of life. We have intentionally closed our eyes to all issues whether relating to our own life or the state in general. The increasing number of street crimes, especially in Karachi and Lahore, has made our lives insecure. The country is being governed by selfish rulers, who have no care about the common people’s problems. Have we ever thought what role we are playing to make our beloved country an invincible state in the comity of nations? Rather, we have shut our eyes to nepotism, hoarding, black marketing and corruption. We are busy in making undue profits, selling unhygienic food items, using every tactic to loot innocent people, making money from non-development projects and transporting illegal items across the country. However, some appreciable steps have been taken by the City District Government of Punjab while dealing with those nasty people who are playing with the people’s health by giving them loathsome food to make maximum profit. This drive against adulteration should continue and those who are involved in such social crimes must be deterred and publicly punished. I hope that the Punjab Food Authority will continue its operation against those who are involved in food adulteration. SHAHID FAROOQ Lahore
