Sir: Fast food is the term given to food that can be prepared and served very quickly. Fast food can also be defined as any food that contributes little or no nutrient value to the diet, but instead provides excess calories and fat. Fast food can be a good way to save time, but it is not the proper way for nutrition. Fast food may include chips, sandwiches, burgers, croissants, kebabs, pizzas, chicken, soups, and salads. It also includes drinks, for instance milkshakes and soft drinks. In Pakistan, the youth show a lot of interest in fast food. About 15 years ago, there were only two fast-food chains (McDonald’s and KFC) in Pakistan. Nowadays almost all international brands have opened their restaurants in almost all big cities in the country. Due to junk food, many diseases are spreading among the young generation. Unfortunately, parents are also least concerned about the diet of their children. They think that by giving burgers or pizzas to their children, they have fulfilled their responsibility. It is my request to the parents and youth to avoid excessive use of fast food. ANAM MAJID EHSAN Lahore
