Sir: Drugs abuse is rapidly growing in Pakistan especially among the youth. Almost five per cent of the adult population is addicted to drugs across the country. Pakistan is the top from the countries which is affected by this scourge. Drugs addition is often overshadowed by human development problems such as poverty, illiteracy and lack of basic healthcare. About 7 billion people are drugs addicts, while 700 people die every day in Pakistan due to drugs addicts. Pakistan became a major exporter of heroin in 1980s flowing influx Afghan refugees escaping the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in 1978. Out of almost nine millions drugs addition in Pakistan two million are the age of 15 to 25 which is young age. On the same way, a recent survey of 10 colleges and two universities of Lahore brought to light some eye opening facts related to drugs abuse among the students.
